The movie "Looper" is an action -adventure coming at best English Movie Channel India.

Basically, the story revolves around a guy Joe who is a hired gunman from the future has to escape assassination from his past life. In 2074, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent into past.

'Face the future. Fight the past.' Quite apt if we talk about the movie 'Looper'. A must-watch action movie starring Bruce Willis. I'm sure many of you now get it why I called it the must-watch.
Face your future. Fight your past.

Quite a tagline! And it turns out to be more awe strikingly amazing when this tagline proves out to be true quite literally. Won't you say so? Well, in 'Looper', be ready for something like this. I watched this flick last year and as awesome as its rating is, it's one awesome English action movie that nobody should miss to watch.

True Detective: Series of the Year

HBO Defined is up with an exclusive crime drama series called 'True Detective'. The series is quite exciting because of a couple of reason. The topmost among them is the plot of the series which is totally gripping.

Are you into typical crime drama? Yes! Then, get ready to hail ‘True Detective’. This series is created by HBO. And as HBO is quite famous for its HBO Original series, critics have high hopes for this series. But we don’t have to wait a lot for that as this series is soon getting premiered in January 2014.

Anyway, if I get to review the series as per the story, plot, et al, I would definitely give it a clear 8 out of 10. The best judge of any movie or series is the plot. And if you see the plot of this series, you’ll find quite an interesting story. This series focuses on the lives of two detectives, Rust Cohle and Martin Hart. These detectives are after a serial killer for 17 years now. This hunt is the major focus. Though the series will be presented as anthology drama series where every season features a different cast of characters and story.

The role of Rust Cohle is written by Matthew McConaughey and Martin Hart by Woody Harrelson. Both the actors are quite a charmer... also not to forget their acting talent. McConaughey has done many an awesome movies like ‘The Wedding Planner’, ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past’, ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ and the latest one ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. Even Harrelson has shown his talent already in flicks/series like ‘Natural Born Killers’, ‘The Hunger Games’, ‘Now You See Me’, et al. And these two actors make quite an amazing cast.

Apart from an amazing star cast, the series is portrayed as quite mysterious. If you read the tagline ‘Man is the cruellest animal’, it says a lot about the mystery effect of the series. And honestly, I guess, that is the USP of this crime series. The other tagline says ‘Touch darkness and darkness touches you back.’ The drama gets to you when you actually see the trailer. I can bet if you give it a watch, you will go mad after it. You can watch it on YouTube or on HBO site. I personally loved the style how a character in the trailer says ‘The story’s always the same because it only went down the one way.’ Awesome, really!

As this series is quite important for HBO, HBO Defined is up with an awesome activity on Facebook. I gave it a try and it was a really cool detective game where you get crime scenes and you have to solve them to get a ‘True Detective’ badge. Also, as this series is coming on HBO Defined, you get to watch this awesome series totally ad free. Sweet, eh?! I’m quite excited for it. I’m sure you would be if you watch the trailer once.

HBO Mega Action Movie: Step Up Revolution

'One step can change your world.' This does suit to 'Step Up Revolution'. The movie is ultimate and it has some amazing dancing moves that are different from previous 'Step Up' movies. Don't miss it on HBO India at 9pm.

Step Up Revolution

‘One step can change your world.’

The perfect tagline that any writer can think of for a movie like ‘Step Up’! And it’s perfect in so many ways: the amazing dancing moves that you get to see in the movie, the amazing dancing stars that rock the floor and the amazing Moose... oh yes, Moose. He has been my favourite since ‘Step Up 2’ and his entry in this one is gonna make you jump... I swear.

I’m sure you might be wondering why I’m feeling so elated about this one. Well, be ready to be amazed as ‘Step Up Revolution’ is coming on HBO India. Yes, it’s the ‘HBO Mega Action Movie of the Month’... so better be ready for some dancing ‘action’. Yuhooo!

What impresses me more is the fact that the leading lady of this flick, Kathryn McCormick, seems like such a pro when it comes to acting. She is an amazing dancer that I already knew (Courtesy: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’). Ryan Guzman and Cleopatra Coleman were also amazing. But I’ve a special place for McCormick as I’m quite a fan of her since her time in ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. I’m sure even you must agree with me if you’ve watched the show.

Guess Scott Speers, the director, also deserves some credit here. As a matter of fact this movie speaks out loud for his direction skills. The way he presented ‘The Mob’ in their flash mob performance was so captivating and so amazing. And the idea of converting the whole flash mob into ‘protest’ mob for the fight for a greater cause was simply awesome. The dancing moves there were really ultimate, especially the corporate one. That was one classic dance style.

I’m so glad HBO India is bringing this one to small screen. The only thing that people will miss is the 3D effects. But something is better than nothing. I think now I can safely say that HBO India is one of my favourite English movie channels. And the reason being the awesome English movies that they have been showing lately. Such movie is a treat indeed!

And the surprise element in the flick is the surprise entry of Moose (I think I can’t stop mentioning him again and again. Such is his charm.). And as I’m saying this, one of my very reasons to watch this movie again is Moose himself. He’s been a part of ‘Step Up’ series since ‘Step Up 2’ and I jumped off my seat in the movie hall when I saw him in this one too.

I really can’t wait for 12^th October, 9pm. Yes, that’s the D-Day. And the best thing is it’s a Saturday. So, tune-in to HBO India and have fun!

HUGO - Winner of five Oscar awards Premieres on HBO this Sun, 28th April!

I’ve always had this thing for the adventure flicks. And when they come added with a twist of history, it makes my day. One such movie is Hugo. It is a 2011 3D historical adventure drama film based on Brian Selznick's novel ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’ which is a story about a boy who lives alone in the Gare Montparnasse Railway Station in Paris. The boy is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton created by him. Somehow the automaton is a cue to solving the mystery. The boy goes on in his search of the key to make the Automaton work. And, that means… ADVENTURE OVERLOAD.

What attracts me more about this film is the fact that it centers around the Paris of 1930s. The beautiful editing, amazing location, superb art and ultimate history. It seems like a charming 3D French postcard.  All in all, a bliss in itself!

Game of Thrones - An Award Winning Home Production from HBO

One thing that all true lovers of great television and cinema around the world cannot deny is the priceless contribution of HBO’s home productions to the art of moving pictures. Year after year, HBO continues to churn out cinematic masterpieces in all possible genres that have gathered countless awards and accolades. And, the most impressive feature of these productions is that they do not appeal only to the classes but also to the masses which is reflected in their humongous worldwide sales and distribution.

Game of Thrones is the latest addition to that unending and already impressive list of HBO’s award winning home productions. The series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by George RR Martin and its creators are David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Although the series was highly anticipated since its early stages of development, it still managed to take the world of television with surprise with its high production value, authenticity and life like depiction. Considering that the series is based in the Medieval Fantasy genre; it was a huge gamble of both money and reputation but it was a gamble that certainly paid off and once again outlined HBO’s commitment to producing the highest quality of content for television.

Its first season aired in April 2011, and since then has been telecast around the world earning great reviews from critics. Many critics hailed Game of Thrones as the best television series of the year 2011 and the awards and the nominations that followed certainly proved them right. Game of Thrones was nominated in a whopping 13 categories for the Emmy awards and won two of them. The Blu-ray and DVD box set sold 350,000 units in the first seven days of its release, making it the largest first-week DVD sales among all the previous HBO television productions. Banking upon the tremendous success of the series, soundtracks, official merchandise, video games etc. were launched soon after.

However, the one thing that represents the true success of a television series above all else is whether it will be continued for another season or not. Well, the fans of Game of Thrones can certainly rejoice because it isn’t going anywhere for at least a couple of years because following the tremendous success of the first season not only a second season (aired on 1st April 2012) but also 3rd and 4th seasons were ordered by HBO.

It is because of HBO’s unrelenting pursuit of excellence in original programming that it has managed to be the leader of the pack for such a long time. And, if history is anything to go by then we can be sure that the only one capable of outshining HBO is HBO itself.

Boardwalk Empire - Another Cinematic Masterpiece from HBO

No one else does Period Dramas like HBO does it. Period! HBO over a period of several decades has produced countless television movies and series in all possible genres but it’s the period dramas that have always outshined the rest. The authenticity that HBO brings to its Period dramas remains unsurpassed till date. High production value, great actors & directors, outstanding vision etc. all of this comes later. The key driving force that really enables HBO to go on producing such great shows one after the other, year after year, is its commitment to cinematic excellence and its loyal viewers, whom it never disappoints.

HBO’s award winning period drama, Boardwalk Empire is yet another feather in the cap for HBO. The show is based on a book titled Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City and is set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era. The depiction of that time period is so authentic that not only did it get overwhelming positive popular response but a critical one as well. It is estimated that a whopping 18 million dollars were spent on the very first episode. This goes to show how committed HBO is to making the experience as original as possible, whatever the cost might be. And, of course it cannot be denied that having the Oscar winner Martin Scorsese, directing and the gifted Steve Buscemi in the lead role certainly made the series a lot more popular.

However the success of this show should not come as such a big surprise as it was more or less expected because it was created by none other than Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and producer Terence Winter of The Sopranos (another award winning HBO television series). Having such great names attached to this series made it quite an anticipated event in itself and it certainly did not disappoint.

As expected, the awards and accolades that were heaped upon the show clearly made it the most popular show of the year. It gathered an astounding 26 wins and 38 nominations in Emmy’s, Golden Globes, AFI, Screen Actors Guild Awards etc., including best director, best actor and best series.

Since its first episode aired in September 2009 the season has completed 2 seasons and has been renewed for a third, which should be good news for all the fans of this series out there.

In a time of big budget, special effects Hollywood productions; HBO’s continued support for such works of art goes a long way in revealing its true value system as a network whose priority has always been to produce such content that makes the art of motion picture reach its zenith.
